Update… Sort of

Obviously, there have not been any updates for many months now. Many people have been asking where we went and how we are doing. Additionally, this is one of the first sites that comes up when searching for oral spiro and hair/hairlines. Therefore, I feel obligated to tell everyone what is going on, to the best of my knowledge. From private communication with auglenny a few months ago, I know that he was very happy with his results on oral spiro. I’m not going to disclose exactly what he said in private emails though.

As for me, oral spiro has not helped or hurt me so far. But here is the problem: I have been very inconsistent with my usage of it. I have probably only been taking an average of 150-200 mg per week (50 mg on some days) and thus I have not lived up to my goal or my declaration that I was going to use 75 mg. Therefore, I can’t say spiro hasn’t worked for me. It may work wonders when I actually take it regularly!

I have gotten over my hairline a little bit and I function in life but it is still a problem that I think about all the time. That is why I am rededicating myself to a spiro regimen; tarting July 4 I am going to take 75-100 mg per day of oral spiro for the next four months before looking seriously for regrowth. If I don’t start growing breasts or otherwise have serious issues with it at the four month mark, I am going to take 100-125 mg per day for another four months. After that I will decide whether it is working or not. If there is regrowth then I will continue on. If not, the spiro project is doomed but hopefully, in that unfortunate event, others will take my place. But I remain hopeful.

If I am successful it won’t just change my life, it will also provide an excellent resource for other guys trying to regrow their hairlines. We are all in this together my balding brothers! Check back in three months for a status update. Thanks to all of our supporters and sorry for the lull!

Hairlinewoes now on 75 mg of oral spiro and off fin entirely

I am now taking 75 mg of oral spiro daily. November 4 was the two month mark and so I upped my does. I am taking it twice a day (50 mg once and 25 mg the other). Thus far I have no results to report back. MY acne is better but not cleared up like I hoped it would be. I may be growing some more peach fuzz in my hairline corners, but probably nothing that means anything yet. I have been off minoxidil for about 15 weeks and did not lose any of my tiny hairs on my hairline so I think, at this point, I can breathe a sigh of relief and resat assured that my hair was not dependent on minoxidil. I’m free and clear of the stuff and, in another month, I can say this with absolute certainty if nothing bad happens.

I also want to mention that I have been off fin for several weeks now. I don’t feel as if I need it. I’m focusing only on oral spiro. I sort of have mpb but, at the same time, I kind of don’t. As with almost everything else about me, my hair situation is just odd.

By the way, check out my forum. if anyone is interested let me know and I will purge it of the spammers and we can get started. I just need like two other people to start! Thanks.

Auglenny’s progress update. Blood results.

It’s already been over 7 weeks since starting. As you all know I started off with 50mg. But I quickly increased the dosage to 100 mg and then to 200mg by the end of 3rd week already.

If you just want to read about my hair go to the bottom of the post.

I took my initial blood tests on July 17th which I didn’t originally post so let’s sum up the most important indicators:

Potassium – 4.49 nmol/l
Estradiol – 46.61 pg/ml
Progesterone – 0.39 ng/ml
Testosterone – 513,63 ng/dl
Cortisol – 14.70 ug/dl

Then right after I was back from my holidays I took another test on September the 13th.

Potassium – 4.07 nmol/l
Estradiol – 31.08 pg/ml
Progesterone – 1.63 ng/ml
Testosterone – 457,98 ng/dl
Cortisol – 17.31 ug/dl

As you can see it’s very hard to judge if those are normal fluctuations or spiro’s job. While the hairloss community tends to think that spironolactone is some very powerful castration drug those results show what I’ve been saying all along. Spironolactone has a great safety profile especially for young people like me. Potassium has actually dropped – so much for the potassium sparing effect. If I add to this the fact that I was eating a lot of foods that were potassium rich during my vacations it goes a long way to show that potassium should not be a concern for anybody.

As for hormones. It’s worth noting that my T levels did drop a little. While the drop itself could have happened in anyone without taking spironolactone at all. We do know that because of the way it works it either raises or decreases testosterone, so the fact that it didn’t raise means that means dosage is most likely on the reducing side. Estradiol dropped, which means so far I’m not going in the gyno direction. I did admit before that gyno IS probably the biggest concern that is somewhat real so I don’t want to use those results to mock it. But I do think it’s not as likely as people think. Progesterone raised and it should have. I will definitely keep that on my eye. But so far it’s hard to make a comment.

Hair part.

So did I notice an improvement at the hairline? Not that I can tell. It’s seems to be very stable. There are days when I think something might be going on and it sure might be the case. But I really want to avoid being a guy that screams “INCREDIBLE regrowth” one day and cries about shedding more the another day. Talking of shedding the first few days I could swear there was less but over the long term it looks pretty much the same. But it’s not in the crazy territory either so that’s not a concern. Hairline is my point of focus.

Other side effects.

Diuretic effect? No, not really.

Less oily skin – maybe so. Actually it’s the only effect that I’m inclined to call on. But again anything could have caused it. Not dramatic enough.

Facial hair growth – no.

What’s next?

I will keep on taking 200mg and perhaps up it to 300mg to see if it finally make a real dent on spironolactone. I should get some new pictures of my hairline very soon (say this or next week?) so we can analyse what’s really happening in a more transparent way togather. I appreciate every comment you might have as it’s good to know that somebody is actually reading and finding it useful.
Also please do remember that all my commentary on my results is based on my very limited knowledge. So never take anything that I write as granted. It’s speculation at this point, you’re free to completely disagree and post your own.

Started Spiro Sep. 4

I started oral spiro on Sunday Sept. 4, one week earlier than planned. I am doing 50 mg per day. I will keep you all posted. My next progress post will be in two weeks and will be for acne only. In three months I will post my first hairline update progress pics. At that same time I will also post pics of facial hair. It is then that I will decide whether to go to 75 mg or stay at 50 mg. So every other week (until it is cleared up entirely) I will posts acne update pics every other week and every three months I will post hairline pics. If I get good results than I hope I can inspire other guys to do it. I like being somewhat of a pioneer.

Got my Rx for Spiro

I got my prescription today for spiro. My derm is cool with me giving it a try and says there should be no permanent effects once I stop it. He said it will clear up my acne. I keep second guessing my decision to do this but then  I remember that it is for the hairline and the acne and then it is a bit easier to justify. I am going to start on my birthday, September 11. It will be a great birthday present to begin this spiro journey to a happier life… or an epic fail. I’ll keep you all posted!

The High T hairlines: Assad and Weiner

UPDATE: I am looking for prominent people with 9/11 birthdays and, sure enough, Bashar al-Assad has a 9/11 birthday. So we both have a screwed up hairline and a screwed up birthday. Nice, maybe I ought to get to know this bastard a little better–we have a few things in common…

Below are pictures of Bashar al-Assad (right) dictator of Syria and Anthony Wiener (left) former U.S. Congressmen who resigned a few months after a sexual scandal. Check out their hairlines. Both have nice hair except for on their hairline corners where they both have that goofy recession that I have.

I beleive that neither of these men will go bald but they both have these hairlines because of high testosterone levels. It makes sense. Assas is a strongman dictator and Weiner can’t control his…. well, you know what I mean. Consider what one expert on CNN had to say about Weiner:

“And part of that, many scientists believe that part of the trend is that these guys, you can see even with him all the signs of high testosterone, not that all men with high testosterone are cheaters or are going to be, you know, acting on their sexual impulses this way.”

I agree with her and think that this is more evidence that high T can wreak havoc on the hairlines of guys that will otherwise have a full head of hair. I have thick hair and think I may keep it. With oral spiro hopefully I will get rid of the goofy recession so that I don’t look like these two clowns.

My T levels are in

Alright, I finally got my T levels back and they are somewhat high. My total testosterone came in at 751 with a normal range of 250 to 1,100 given. My free testosterone levels came in at 109 with a normal range of 25 to 155. So I am in the high normal range, even for a young man. I read that T levels can fluctuate by about 100 throughout the day and that the levels are highest in the morning. The blood test lady said usually such tests are done in the morning and I got my blood taken at around 1:30 pm. I predicted that my T levels would be 800 or so and they probably would have been had I got them tested then.

I have an appointment on August 31 and hopefully I can get the Rx filled that day and start taking 50 mg of oral spiro September 1.Iam also considering using another antiandrogen called Bicalutamide instead since it doesn’t appear to have the side effects of oral spiro (the whole high potassium, low blood pressure nonsense). Regardless, the adventure is about to start. Stay tuned for more developments and baseline pics.

Announcement.

Hello everybody!

We, hairlinewoes and auglenny have established ‘spiro guys‘ in an effort to document our progress using oral spironolactone to treat male pattern baldness.

To date there are very few men that used spironolactone or any other oral anti androgen to treat MPB. Well documented cases are virtually non-existent. We will strive to document our progress in as detailed and unbiased way as it is possible. Continue reading
